Real Life Marriage Struggles of a Couple Coping with Mental Illness and Trauma
One day, a lady at my church came up to me to tell me what a model Christian couple Nathan and Amanda were and how all the other young couples at our church looked up to them. The funny thing was that the night before, my husband and I had just counseled them through an awful argument. They were both yelling, “I’m done. I’m out. I can’t do this anymore.” They never tried to be hypocritical about their struggles, but our church communities often don’t provide the space for us to be real about them either. In this interview, they are brutally honest about some of their struggles with mental illness, physical illness, trauma, and just arguing. They admit that they hated each other at times. They also share the lessons that they have learned and their vision for creating communities that are more open and real with each other.
